America’s First National Park

Yellowstone National Park is one of the most iconic and incredible places in the United States. The park is just incredible. It is filled with geothermal features, wildlife and magnificent mountains, rivers and scenic vistas. For those of you who have never visited the park, you absolutely need to go. For those of you who have been there, I will see you there again soon. Yellowstone is one of those places that just keeps calling you back, again and again. There is just something about the park that nourishes the soul in a way that is really hard to describe.

Yellowstone National Park has a number of iconic hotels, including the world famous Old Faithful Lodge and the equally popular Mammoth Springs Lodge. Both were built years ago and are part of the nostalgia and history of the park. The Old Faithful Inn is simply stunning. Even if you are not staying at the lodge, you still need to go in and spend some time exploring the hotel. You won’t believe the incredible architecture and design work that architect Robert Reamer put into the facility. I highly recommend that you take the time to go upstairs and step out onto the outdoor veranda situated directly over the main lobby entrance. Sit down, have a nice cold beverage and enjoy watching the Old Faithful geyser put on a show for you. The geyser erupts approximately every 1 1/2 hours.

Each time we go to Yellowstone we make it a point to spend time in the Hayden and Lamar valleys. If you want to see wildlife, those two valleys are the absolute best places to see some. Check out the video below. This particular day we happened to be driving into the Hayden valley. We ran into this wild Yellowstone grizzly bear, foraging for small rodents. As you can see from the footage, the bear is using it’s keen sense of smell to locate potential food. Then once it locks in on an opportunity, it uses it’s massive claws and strength to dig up the meal. Yellowstone National Park is truly one of the most incredible places on earth. Yellowstone National Park is full of Elk, Deer, Moose, Buffalo, Grizzly Bears, Black Bears, Cougars, Fox, Coyote and all raptors of every type. Visitors to the park are often treated to some of the most incredible photo opportunities that you can imagine. When you drive through the park, be prepared to stop for wildlife because you are almost guaranteed to see a herd of buffalo or elk grazing along the roadside. You will find the rest of the parks inhabitants, such as the grizzly bears and black bears, to be a bit more elusive. If you really want to get some great nature footage or photos, be prepared to do some back country hiking. Make sure you check in with the park rangers and secure all necessary permits before you strike out into the Yellowstone back country.
